FULL INTRODUCTION
Ted has been working in mental health (specifically in cognitive behavioural therapy) since 2010. Most of that time has been spent working in NHS services and more recently, as a private therapist. He has also spent time teaching and supervising other therapists and I currently hold an honorary position as an Assistant Professor of Psychological Therapies at the University of Nottingham.
When I started my training, I got really annoyed. I found myself learning some fantastic things about how we think and how we behave, and what we can do help ourselves, all of which was incredibly helpful to me personally, and all I could think was "Why hasn't anybody taught me this stuff before?" That is why my focus is on mental health information right from an early stage. How we speak to children about emotion, how we understand and react to anxiety or low mood, so that we can give our children the best possible chances as they grow.
I have spent my career so far working as a therapist, delivering cognitive behavioural therapy-based interventions for difficulties such as depression, anxiety, panic and OCD In North Yorkshire and in the East Midlands. Since 2011 I have also worked as a coach, working with people who are in a good place but want to be in a better place. I also teach and supervise coaches and therapists. I currently hold an honorary position as an Assistant Professor of Psychological Therapies at the University of Nottingham.
Having trained in therapy first before moving into coaching, my approach bridges the gap between therapy and coaching. I believe that absolutely everybody can benefit from increased self-awareness and from some understanding of strategies to manage mood and confidence.
I live in Nottinghamshire with my wife and three children
